A Movie’s Technical Rating:

The technical ratings used by Harbinger451 on this website and others are based on a score out of 10. They are derived from a Basic Score (see below) minus any Possible Quality Penalties and plus any Possible Genre Bonuses (also see below), though with the maximim possible score still being 10 and the minimum being 0.

Basic Score:
Each aspect listed below has the potential of earning a maximum of one point, these will be added together to form the basic score.
Plot [bad 0, average +0.5, good +1]
Characters [bad 0, average +0.5, good +1]
Dialogue [bad 0, average +0.5, good +1]
Acting [bad 0, average +0.5, good +1]
Costumes & Styling [bad 0, average +0.5, good +1]
Props & Sets [bad 0, average +0.5, good +1]
Locations [bad 0, average +0.5, good +1]
Cinematography [bad 0, average +0.5, good +1]
Visual & Sound Effects [bad 0, average +0.5, good +1]
Musical Score [bad 0, average +0.5, good +1]

Possible Quality Penalties:
A half point will be deducted from the basic score for each of the following (and potentially other) issues if they are present in the movie.
Lighting too Dark, Muddy Sound, Bad Editting, Bad Continuity, Egregious Anachronisms, Bad Dubbing and/or Bad Subtitles.

Possible Genre Bonuses:
A film’s genre fulfilment can earn a bonus from 0.5 up to 2.0 points depending on how successful it is at capturing the spirit of its given genre.
